Kakadu Plum for skin: what it is and where you'll find it in MIKOA

Kakadu Plum is a small, pale green fruit that grows across the woodlands of northern Australia. It is best known for one thing: it is naturally rich in vitamin C. It is also one of the native ingredients that runs right through the MIKOA range.

What is Kakadu Plum?

It is the fruit of Terminalia ferdinandiana, a tree native to northern Australia. The fruit is about the size of an olive and has been eaten and valued by Aboriginal people for thousands of years. Researchers at the Menzies School of Health Research describe it as having a remarkably high vitamin C content.

Why we use it

Vitamin C is an antioxidant, and antioxidants are a big part of why fruit extracts are used in skin care. In our formulas, Kakadu Plum sits alongside nourishing oils and butters, so you get the native fruit and the moisture in the same step. It is one of the reasons our products feel considered rather than basic.

Where you will find it in MIKOA

Awaken Body Wash

A silky body wash that feels like silk on your skin. It is not a big, bubbly foam. It gives a soft, light lather, rinses clean, and leaves jojoba, sweet almond and coconut oils behind so skin feels moisturised, never tight. Kakadu Plum is here with Finger Lime and Aloe Vera, under a fresh scent of eucalyptus, mandarin and lemon myrtle.

Hydrate Lotion

A silky, lightweight lotion that sinks in fast with no sticky finish. Kakadu Plum works with Lilli Pilli and Davidson Plum, and camellia, shea, argan and coconut, for skin that feels soft and smooth all day. It smells of lemon myrtle and tangerine.

Nourishing Balm

Our richest cream. Thick and buttery, you feel it go on and then it sinks in, leaving skin deeply nourished. Kakadu Plum sits with Quandong and Tasmanian Pepperberry, and shea and cocoa butters, under a warm rosewood and bergamot scent.

Using Kakadu Plum in your routine

The simplest way is to wash with Awaken, then follow with Hydrate Lotion, or Nourishing Balm when skin needs more. Start with Renew Pine Scrub a few times a week so your skin is smooth and ready to take everything in.

Common questions

Is Kakadu Plum native to Australia?

Yes. It grows in northern Australia, across the Kimberley, the Top End and nearby regions.

Does it make your products orange?

No. It is used as an extract, so it does not colour the formulas.
